Stuffed Owls

Me (Onion) and my friend (Belle) have decided to take on weekly sewing projects this summer. We have always been meaning to sew more, and now that we have more spare time, we've decided to turn it into an excuse to get together. To commemorate our projects and share our experiences, I've decided to turn our projects into blog posts! As the first post on this blog, this will be a very general and is lacking photos. Also, so far the project is only half done, so I will go back and update! Lol.

To make owls, you will need:
- At least two kinds of fabrics (the size of the fabric will depend on how large you want the owl) (also, almost any kind of fabric will work)
- Two buttons
- Stuffing
- Thread, needles, scissors, pencil or chalk, sewing machine recommended

Steps:
  1. Fold the piece of fabric (fabric A) which you are going to use for the body in half, with the good side of the fabric on the inside. The edge of the fabric will with either the side or bottom of your owl. Fold the folded edge of your fabric again so this section is half the size of your owl. Using chalk or a pencil, you can rough out the shape of half of your owl.
  2. Pin along the edges of your design and cut your owl out! When you open your owl, it should be in an owl shape, with one side still folded.
  3. In the second fabric (fabric B), cut out the shapes you which to sew onto your owl (belly, beak, etc). Pin these shapes onto the front of your owl (make sure to open up your folded owl and pin on the right side). Hand sew along the edges of these features, to secure them onto your owl.
  4. Sew the two buttons on as eyes.
  5. Fold the owl back in half, with the features on the inside. Pin along the edges of the owl (with pins perpendicular to the edge of the fabric). Using a machine or carefully hand-stitching, sew along the edges of the owl, leaving a hole about  3 inches wide.
  6. Turn your owl inside-out, so you can see its face again :) Stuff!
  7. Handstitch the hole to close.
  8. To make wings, draw the shape of the wings onto a piece of fabric and cut out.
If you wish to make puffy wings, cut out two pieces of fabric per wing, and sew together, leaving a hole. Turn wings inside-out. Stuff with more stuffing. Sew hole.
Sew your puffy or unfinished edged wings onto the sides of your owl (handsewing is recommended).
  9. Add feet if you wish! (I haven't done this, so I'll consult Belle on how to do this before posting about it)
Et Voila! Fini!
